London Brick & Charcoal Candle Holders

A set of large and small cylindrical candle holders coloured with London brick dust by-product and charcoal burned in Sussex, then cast and made by Nina Jua Klein in her workshop in Stoke Newington. Born out of the irritation when the last bit of wax gets stuck at the bottom of a candle holder, Nina Jua Klein’s handmade set consists of modular parts, allowing for a variety of sculptural configurations – and crucially to enable easy removal of wax.

160 x 160 x 80 mm each

Made in n16, from eco water-based acrylic resin (jesmonite), aluminium cylinders, London brick dust, charcoal made from British ash timber.

£85

Product story

The charcoal used for Nina’s custom composite material is a by-product from charcoal production in Wakehurst, a wild botanic garden in the heart of Sussex which is connected to Kew Gardens, where ranger Steve uses ancient and sustainable practices to burn British ash. The brick dust is a waste product of London bricks reclaimed from demolished buildings, that is being cut down in a west London brick yard.

Manufacturing story

Through these aggregates, Nina has developed a truly London colour palette of terracotta, yellow and graphite. Each set comes with a pair of golden beeswax candles made by Candle Makers Limited in their workshop on Mare Street.
