Product story

Folde’s co-founders, Robyn Smith and Birgit Toke Tauka Frietman, began their collaboration online, near the start of the pandemic in 2020. What started as the sharing of creative references, each responding to the last one they exchanged, evolved into Folde – meaning ‘earth’ in old English. Their vast range of influences haven’t prevented Folde having a strong DNA: gestural, elegant, and grounded.

Manufacturing story

Each piece is handcrafted in Folde’s London studio, as one-of-a-kind pieces or in small batches. Naum earrings use recycled silver, but Folde’s practice in fact centres around Highland Horn – a byproduct of the meat industry that would otherwise be disposed of. Pairing this traditional material with a modern aesthetic and techniques, Folde hopes to revive this ancient British craft.

Folde

The co-founders of Folde first met at Central Saint Martins, finding in themselves a shared sensibility. In this venture, the duo pair Smith’s knowledge of silversmithing and Frietman’s skills in hornwork
